Data & Methodology Desk

Maintains the climate dataset behind every ZIP lookup, documents each tool’s formula, and reviews every guide’s numbers before publication.

4 guides · 2 tools

Our standards

  • Every dataset is cited with its source, vintage and license.
  • Every tool formula is published on the methodology page.
  • Corrections are logged publicly with a severity level.
  • Demo or preview data is always labeled as such.

Sources we rely on most

  • NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals 1991–2020
  • USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map (2023)
  • US Census Bureau ZIP Code Tabulation Areas

How a guide gets reviewed

  1. 1Research. Pull the source data and extension or agency guidance.
  2. 2Write. Answer first, then the reasons and the steps.
  3. 3Figure check. An editor re-derives every number from its source.
  4. 4Review. The Data & Methodology Desk signs off.
  5. 5Re-review. Scheduled each season; changes go in the change log.
