Privacy policy

What we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. The short version: very little, and your ZIP code stays on your device unless you choose to send it.

Last updated October 3, 2026. This policy explains what the Eaves & Acres website (eavesandacres.com) collects, why, how long we keep it and your choices. Contact us through our contact form with any privacy request.

Your ZIP code

When you enter a ZIP code, it is saved in your browser’s local storage so other pages and tools can use it. Your browser sends the ZIP code to our server to fetch the climate data for it; the request carries no account or name, and we don’t store the ZIP code with anything that identifies you. You can clear it at any time from the ZIP control at the top of the page or by clearing your browser’s site data. Some tools also save values you enter, such as your pool’s gallons, in local storage on your device only.

Things you send us

  • Contact form: your name, email address, topic, message and the page address. We store them privately and email them to our inbox so we can reply. We keep messages for up to two years, then delete them.
  • Newsletter: your email address, ZIP code and chosen topics, stored privately so we can send the reminders you asked for. If we use an email service provider to send them, it will receive these details only for that purpose. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • “Was this helpful?” feedback: your yes/no vote, any comment you type and the page it’s about. We don’t attach your email or name.

Technical data

Like any website, our host’s servers record standard access logs (IP address, browser, page requested and time) for security and troubleshooting. To stop spam, our forms keep a one-way hash of your IP address for up to one hour to limit repeated submissions. We count page views as a simple total per page, with no cookie and nothing that identifies you.

Cookies, analytics and ads

We use Google Analytics, added through Google’s Site Kit plugin, to count visits and see which pages people find useful. It runs with Google Consent Mode, which works like this:

  • In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google’s own consent message, a Google-certified consent message built on the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework, asks for your choice on your first visit. Analytics and advertising cookies stay off unless you agree. If you decline or never choose, Google’s tags store no cookies on your device; as Google explains, they then send only cookieless signals with a minimum of information about your visit.
  • Everywhere else, analytics cookies are on by default.
  • Anyone can change their choice at any time with “Privacy choices” at the bottom of every page (it reopens Google’s consent message where that message runs), or block Google Analytics on all sites with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

Choices made in Google’s consent message are stored by Google’s consent tool in your browser; a choice made in our own analytics prompt is saved in a cookie named ea_consent for 180 days. Google processes analytics data under Google’s privacy policy; how Google uses information from sites that use its services explains more.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

We have applied to show ads through Google AdSense, and its code loads on our pages. No ads appear until Google approves the site. When ads run, third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.

Outside the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google Consent Mode currently sets advertising storage and ad personalization to “denied”, which tells Google’s tags not to store advertising cookies or personalize ads; we will update this section before that changes. In those three regions, advertising cookies are used only if you agree in Google’s consent message.

Embedded videos

Some guides may include a YouTube video. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play. When you do, the player loads from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, and YouTube (Google) receives your IP address and browser details under Google’s privacy policy.

Sharing

We don’t sell or rent personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only with the services that run the site (our web host, Google Analytics and Google AdSense as described above, and an email provider if we use one) to provide the service, or when the law requires it.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it, and we will answer within 30 days. Residents of California, other US states with privacy laws, the UK and the EU have these rights by law. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

We will post any change here with a new “last updated” date. Significant changes will be noted on the page before they take effect.
